A member of Australia’s successful Under-19 World Cup campaign in 2002, Xavier Doherty was handed a state debut in the same season. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2010, taking 4-46 as Australia lost by one wicket, and was a mainstay of Australia’s ODI side for several years. A smart and skilful left-arm finger spinner and a handy lower-order batsman. Took 4/46 on ODI debut against Sri Lanka at the MCG in November 2010, which included Mahela Jayawardene’s wicket off his second ball. Doherty missed the 2011 World Cup due to a back injury and after missing Australia’s tri-series in Zimbabwe in 2014, he returned for the final two games of Australia's three-match ODI sweep of Pakistan in the UAE, taking three wickets. Doherty was then brought back into the squad for the final three games of November’s ODI series against South Africa, where he played at Manuka Oval.
