Thabitha and Vipin Kumar bagged gold medal for India on the first day of Asian Youth Athletic Championship 2019

India finished the opening day with 2 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals. Thabitha P.M of India ran 13.86s in 100m Hurdles to secure the first gold medal for India in this championship. Earlier in the day, she ran 14.00s to finish first in her heats and qualify for the finals to be held in the evening. The silver and bronze medal went to the Japan and Chinese athletes respectively.

Vipin kumar threw 69.00m in his first attempt to claim the lead in the Hammer Throw Finals. He maintained the lead  throughout and threw the hammer to 69.63m in his final attempt to bag the second gold medal for India in this event. Chinese and Iran athletes bagged silver and bronze medal with throws of 66.64m and 65.85m respectively.

Harshita Sehrawat of India threw the hammer ball to 61.93m and win the silver medal for the country in this event. She maintained her second place all through the event and win the third medal for India in Asian event. Gold was won by the Chinese Taipei athlete with a throw of 61.93m.

Deepak Yadav cleared 4.70m in pole vault to win a bronze medal for the country. Gold medal went to Chinese athlete who cleared 5.00m in the same event.  Vishal Mor of India leaped to 15.09m and bag the second bronze medal for the country. Chinese Taipei athlete secured the gold medal with a jump of 15.15m.

In the morning session Ajay opened the medal account for India with a bronze medal in 1500m event. He ran 3:57.25 to win the first medal for the country in 2019 Asian Championship. In the same event Harendra kumar finished fourth with a timing of 3:57.55.

Abdul Razak and Ramachandra  in 400m men, Shashikant and Vivek karan in 100m men, Priya and Ajimon Shiny in 400m women and Avantika Santhosh in 100m women qualified for finals in their respective events. Usaid Khan completed the day in first place with 3658 points after the first day of Decathlon.
