Montreal: India's top player Saurav Ghosal , readying himself for the Asian Championship due in Chennai next month has made it to the semi-final of the Montreal Open, a PSA world tour event here on Wednesday.

Ghosal overcame Arturo Salazar of Mexico in a hard fought 11-8, 9-11,9-11, 11-4, 15-13 quarterfinal match.
The Indian, who is top seeded, had a comfortable first round earlier beating a qualifier, again a Mexican Alfredo Avila 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.

That win brought him to the quarterfinal. Salazar, who had beaten an eighth seeded player, proved a tough customer. Showing greater firepower around the court, the Mexican had the Indian in knots.

Resilience was the need and Ghosal showed that in ample measure to tire out his rival from a game down situation and eventually helped himself to a close win.

Ghosal is scheduled to meet the third seed Omar Adel Meguid of Egypt next. On paper the Indian holds a 2-1 advantage over the Egyptian.
