Biography

Nicolas Anelka is one of the most prolific strikers to have joined the ISL. He has played for the some of the most illustrious clubs in Europe, including PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Juventus. Anelka has also played for Manchester City, Fenerbache, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea, and West Bromwich Albion, and even had a short spell with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua. Anelka achieved the Premier League and FA Cup ‘double’ at both Arsenal (1997-98) and Chelsea (2009-10), and helped Real Madrid win the 1999-00 UEFA Champions League. He won the Serie A with Juventus in 2012-13 and the Süper Lig 2004–05 with Turkish side Fenerbache. Anelka has also garnered several personal accolades throughout his career, winning the PFA (the Professional Footballers’ Association in England) Young Player of the Year award in 1997-98 as an Arsenal player and the Premier League Golden Boot for Chelsea in 2008-09. He was in the Premier League’s Team of the Year in 1998-99 and repeated the feat ten seasons later, and was frequently the top scorer for his club, wherever he was playing. At the national level, Anelka represented the French national side on 69 occasions, finding the net 14 times. With ‘Les Bleus’ he has won the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament, and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2001.
