Biography

Wicketkeeper-batsman Niall O’Brien is no stranger to cricket in Australia, having spent time playing grade cricket with Mosman and North Sydney early in his career.

O’Brien played his first One-Day International for Ireland against Scotland in 2006 and was a crucial part of the 2007 Cricket World Cup squad, particularly in Ireland’s upset win over Pakistan when he scored 72.

He scored 63 against England in the same tournament and played six matches at the 2011 event, with a best performance of 57* against Netherlands. O’Brien will line up for his third World Cup in 2015 and will head in to the tournament with confidence after good performances during Ireland’s warm-up tours in Australia, New Zealand and Dubai, having scored 88 against the Australian Capital Territory, 55 against Canterbury and 68 against New Zealand A.
