Biography

The Kerala sprinter made his mark of making to the Rio Olympics by achieving the qualifying time of 45.40 s in the 400 metres in the city of Bydgoszcz in Northern Poland in the Polish athletics championship in June. This had come a day after he had clocked 45.44s.

After being unlucky to miss a chance in the Indian Grand Prix in New Delhi in April when a power failure came in the way of recording his actual time clocked, he had to wait anxiously for an opportunity. The 45.40 s mark is a new national mark, erasing Arokia Rajiv's earlier record of 45.47s.

Anas had won a silver medal in the Federation Cup held in New Delhi in April with an effort of 45.74s. He is the third Indian male athlete after Milkha Singh and K.M. Binu to have qualified for the 400 m event in the Olympics. Anas is an athlete of the Indian Navy.

He was scouted by the Navy at the National Games held in Kerala in 2015. He was initially under Coach K.G. Ajesh, a former International athlete and in his maiden outing in the inter-services championship in July 2015 in Hyderabad, he won a silver medal. In his first national championship the same year in Kolkata he won a silver.

Anas improved his timing to below 46s for the first time in the Indian Grand Prix in New Delhi. Currently he is guided by Muhammad Kunhi, a former Services champion in 400 m.
