Manika Batra fights hard but loses to experienced Grzybowska 2-4

Rio de Janeiro, 6 Aug: Manika Batra has crashed out of the Table Tennis women’s singles’ She lost 4-2 after a fighting effort. Manika was participating in an Olympic event for the first time. Manika Batra went down fighting to Katarzyna Franc-Grzybowska losing 12-10 6-11 12-14 11-8 4-11 12-14. Manika Batra started the game well and was at 2-2 to start with, but the Polish player took the lead 8-6. Manika Batra again fought on to equal at 9-9.

It was deuce at 10-10 and ultimately it was Batra who took the set 12-10, which was an excellent start for the Indian player. The Polish player was determined in the second set and she took a huge lead in the beginning of the second set, though Batra fought back, Grzybowska wrapped up the second set 11-6. Third set was the most fought one in which Manika took early lead and was leading the Polish player 7-1, which soon became 10-10 and ultimately 14-12 in favour of Grzybowska.

The 4th game was again a tight one and Batra did well to take the 4th game and level the match 2-2. Polish opponent showed all her class and experience to wrap up the fifth game by 11-4.

Batra continued to show her grit and determination but it was the experience of the Polish player which worked in her favour as she won the match 4-2.
