Mahesh loses final

Mahesh Mangaonkar

Dublin: India's Mahesh Mangaonkar did well to reach the final of the Irish Open, a PSA Challenger event here before bowing out to third seed New Zealander Campbell Grayson 11-6, 11-8, 11-7.

The two had met once before where again the New Zealander had the upper hand. Except for the third game where the points had gone neck and neck until seven points, Campbell had things well under his control. Mahesh, who was seeded seven, had two tough matches earlier in the quarterfinal and semi-final, both going four games. He had beaten Benjamin Aubert of France 7-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-5 for a semi-final entry where he downed sixth seed Peter Creed of Wales 10-12, 11-4, 11-2, 11-3.
