Plovdiv, Bulgaria, October 20, 2020 – Cuban national team middle blocker Jessica Aguilera Carbajal has signed with Maritza Plovdiv for the upcoming season in the European Champions League and Bulgaria’s National Volleyball League.

The 21-year-old athlete who was part of Cuba’s starting line-up at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Japan transferred from Peru’s Alianza Lima to the Bulgarian champions of the last six seasons.

The 1.84m-tall international has already arrived in Plovdiv and is expected to join Maritza’s training sessions on Tuesday, upon completion of the relevant medical exams.

“I am super happy to be here and I thank everyone for trusting me. I know that the effort will not be in vain because I am going to give my best, and with the help of my teammates the team will reach its peak,” Jessica Aguilera told

Aguilera is expected to partially fill the void left by the departures of Bulgarian national team star Hristina Vuchkova and Canadian international Jennifer Cross both of whom transferred to Turkish clubs between seasons.

Under new head coach Lazar Lazarov, Maritza’s squad are preparing for the defence of the national title and the national cup trophy as well as for their participation in the pool stage of the CEV Champions League, where they will take on Turkey’s VakifBank Istanbul, Poland’s LKS Commercecon Lodz and France’s ASPTT Mulhouse.
