Former No. 4 Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina is set to play 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer at the Miami Open on Friday afternoon. The 27-year-old del Potro defeated his fellow countryman, Guido Pella, 6-0, 7-6(4) on Wednesday night setting up the 21st career meeting with the Swiss maestro. Juan Martin del Potro is playing in his third event since returning from wrist surgery in January at the Delray Beach Open where he reached the semi-finals.

The Miami Open marks Federer’s first competitive match since undergoing knee surgery seven weeks ago to repair a torn meniscus. This is Federer’s 16th appearance at the Miami Open where he will be going for his third title (2005-2006 champion). Federer owns a 15-5 lead in the all-time series including a win over del Potro in their last meeting at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in 2013. Del Potro defeated Federer in the final of the 2009 US Open winner to claim his first Grand Slam title.
