Working in Bangalore with South West Railway, Sajan finds it tough to devote time for swimming, his pasison and work. But devoted that he is and diligent, he stuck to his goal of being a good swimmer. Though freestyle and relay events are where he is supposed to be strong, this Kerala-born swimmer got his berth to the Rio Olympics for his skill in 200m butterfly. He won the 100 m butterfly in the 2014 national games, holds the national record in 200m butterfly and 1,500 m freestyle.

The new record he set in 1,500m freestyle in the 2014 national games got him a ticket to the 2015 world championship. Seeing his talent, the world body FINA offered him scholarship to train in thailand for the world championship. In recent times, he has been regularly bettering his own mark in 1,500m, first to 15.55 min and then to 15.45 min at the Kazan world championship. It was at the Hong Kong Open recently that he grabbed his 200m buttefly record, becoming in the process the first Indian to finish it under two minutes not once but twice.

He bettered Rehan Poncha's seven-year mark of 2:00:70 by clocking 1:59:72 in the heats and then improving it to 1:59:27 in the final. At the 2015 Kerala National Games he was the star of the pool, bagging six gold and three silver.
