Biography

Qualified for the Rio Olympics with his throw of 20.65 m in the Federation Cup held 2015 May. This was just a shade lower than the national mark of 20.69 m held by Om Prakash Singh since 2012. There after he went off to US for five months with his favourite coaches Pritam and Shakthi Singh to the Aphelion Athletics club in Pennsylvania.

 

According to reports the stay there and the methodology followed has helped him optimise results. A University Games title winner, Inderjeet was the bronze medallist in the Incheon Asian Games. Thereafter he won the gold medal in the Asian Athletics Grand prix in Bangkok in June last year reaching a distance of 19.83.

 

That was his second international gold medal win in that month after Wuhan Asian Championship, where he had set a new championship record with a 20.41m attempt. There was much expectations of his performance at the SAF Games but a back injury cut short that route. Born in Punjab he moved to Madhya Pradesh early where his father was employed.

 

In 2007 his father died and that threatened to dash his athletics dreams but mother helped him restore confidence. Coach Pritam Singh further inspired him and the slow strides began with the world university success. One bring prospect of recent times.
