Biography

His Uncle influenced him to take up shooting which he did after his college career. It was in 1998 that he took the sport seriously. Shotgun skeet event was his line of choice and expertise. Five year later he had made his international debut in the ISSF world cup in Italy. From there he has not looked back with a variety of competiitons and a flurry of achievements beseeching him. At the National level, he has won five gold medals including three as national champion.

 

In addition he had bagged gold (team) in Singapore twice in 2007 and 2008 in the Open shooting championship there. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, New Delhi he won gold in the pairs event. Mairaj was the first to qualify for the shotgun event for the Olympics. He won a quota place in the shortgun skeet event in Lonato, Italy in 2015.This year in April he won a silver at the ISSF world cup held in Rio itself. That was India's firs skeet medal in the world cup. Out of 26 world cup appearances this was Mairaj's best ever finish.
