Achievements

  • She became the first female Indian gymnast to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games by claiming a bronze in the vault event in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2014.

Biography

Dipa rose to prominence when she won a bronze in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to become the first Indian female gymnast to win a medal. She has the reputation of being one of the five women to have landed the very difficult Podunova vault in competition and what is more, holding the highest score (15.100) among them all.

 

A bronze at the Asian championship last year in Hiroshima is also a first for her country. Dipa made history when she became the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics after her strong performance in the final qualifying and test event in Rio itself. She garnered a total score of 52.698 pts to book a berth for the artistic event in gymnastics.
