  • She was the second Indian female wrestler to win a world championship medal, after Alka Tomar first won in 2006.
  • She won a bronze in the 51kg category of the 2012 World Championships.

Babita was lucky to get a call for the Olympics. She had actually pulled out of the bronze medal match in an Olympic qualifier in Mongolia in a bid to come back fresh in another tournament, the final one, in Istanbul. But Wrestling Federation of India took the act seriously and suspended her and banned her from participating in Istanbul.

For a former world championship bronze medallist and a Commonwealth gold medallist that seemd a cruel blow. Her dream of participating in the Olympics seemed over but as luck would have it, news came that Mongolia's Sumiyaa who had beaten her to get an Olympic berth, had failed a dope test.

Babita thus made the cut. Having made it, her dream now is “win a medal.” A 2014 Asian games gold medallist, Babita has a string medal-winning successes over the years: at the Glasgow Commonwealth games 2014 (gold), 2013 Asian Championship (bronze), 2012 world championship (bronze), 2011 commonwealth championship (gold), 2010 commonwealth games (silver) and 2009 commonwealth championship (gold).
