Biography

Hailing from a humble background, Rajiv began as a long jumper before taking to 400 mts. At the Incheon Asian Games 2014, he had won a bronze medal in 400 mts clocking 45.92 s. That bettered his previous best of 46.13 s which he had clocked at the national inter-state championship in Lucknow in 2014.

Later in 2015 national inter-state, he improved it to 45.70s. This year in the Federation cup, Rajiv showing the consistency of an eager sportsperson, completed the 400 m in 45.47 s which instantly became the national record replacing K.M.Binu's 12-year old mark of 45.48 s set in the Athens Olympics.

But this did not get him an olympic berth Rio yet. Rajiv attributed his growth in athletics to his joining army. Rajiv's passage to the Rio olympics came via the longer relay where he and his mates clocked 3.00:91 min in the bangalore qualifiers in July and this also happened to be a new national record.
